Last night, we hosted an intimate and unforgettable Scarabus whisky tasting at Club Mareva Beirut — and what an experience it was.
Set in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, our guests explored the full depth of Islay’s smoky soul, guided through a tasting of four distinctive expressions:

Scarabus, meaning “a rocky place” in Old Norse, is a bold and mysterious Islay single malt created by Hunter Laing & Co., a respected family-owned independent bottler based in Glasgow. The brand is led by Stewart Laing, a master blender with over 50 years of experience, alongside his sons Andrew and Scott. Scarabus is bottled at their Islay distillery, Ardnahoe, a modern facility that still honors traditional methods.
While the distillate source behind Scarabus remains a closely held secret, the whisky is non-chill filtered, naturally colored, and matured in a selection of refill bourbon, virgin oak, and fresh bourbon casks. The result: classic Islay peat, balanced by sweetness, coastal salinity, and elegant structure.
Club Mareva Beirut has become known for hosting standout cigar and whisky pairing events, evenings where flavor, friendship, and atmosphere come together effortlessly. This Scarabus tasting was no exception. The energy, the curiosity, and the shared appreciation for fine spirits reminded us why we love doing what we do.
