Rocky Patel Cigar Masterclass at Club Mareva Beirut

August 28, 2026

Two masterclasses and a meet and greet at Club Mareva Beirut marked the first time the man behind one of the most recognized names in premium cigars sat down with this community, in this room.

Club Mareva Beirut was proud to welcome Rocky Patel to Lebanon for an exceptional series of events celebrating cigars, craftsmanship, and the strength of the Lebanese cigar community.

Rocky’s first visit to the country marked an important moment for Club Mareva Beirut and Hand Rolled, the official distributor of Rocky Patel Premium Cigars in Lebanon. Across two masterclasses and an intimate meet and greet, guests were given a rare opportunity to spend time with one of the most influential personalities in the modern cigar industry.

The two masterclasses went far beyond a traditional cigar tasting. Rocky personally guided guests through his journey in the cigar world, sharing the experience, determination, and attention to detail behind the development of his brands. He spoke about tobacco selection, fermentation, blending, construction, and the patience required to create a truly memorable cigar.

Rocky repeatedly emphasized the importance of consistency. He stressed that every cigar should look perfect and explained how each one passes through a detailed quality control process before receiving approval. This rigorous approach helps maintain consistency in construction, draw, appearance, and smoking experience across every cigar bearing his name.

Rocky also discussed how construction and format affect the smoking experience. He spoke about the draw characteristics of box pressed cigars and explained how different sizes of the same cigar can express an identical blend differently.

Rocky explained that changing a cigar’s size changes the proportion of wrapper tobacco relative to filler. In a smaller ring gauge, the wrapper represents a greater proportion of the cigar, while a larger ring gauge contains proportionally more filler. This is why different vitolas can express the same blend with noticeably different balance and flavor.

He also discussed the extended fermentation periods given to the tobacco used in Rocky Patel cigars. Rather than rushing the process, the leaves are allowed the time needed to develop the refinement, balance, and consistency expected from a premium cigar.

To demonstrate the quality of the tobacco available to him, Rocky spoke about the White Label. He explained that it uses a genuine Connecticut Shade wrapper grown in Connecticut, rather than Connecticut seed tobacco cultivated elsewhere, together with tobaccos aged for ten years. The blend reflects the exceptional tobacco resources behind Rocky Patel Premium Cigars and the patience required to use them properly.

Rocky also went deeply into the subject of tobacco primings. He explained how a tobacco plant can be divided into as many as eight distinct primings, with each level producing leaves of different strength, texture, flavor, and character. Understanding the precise position from which every leaf is harvested allows him and his blending team to select exactly which leaves should be used to achieve the intended profile of each cigar.

He also spoke about seed hybridization and tobacco development, offering guests insight into the experimentation and agricultural knowledge involved in developing tobacco varieties with specific characteristics for future blends.

Rocky also addressed his long standing fight against regulation of premium cigars by the United States Food and Drug Administration. He shared his efforts to defend the premium cigar industry and protect the traditions, companies, retailers, and consumers that form its community.

During the masterclasses, guests first smoked the Rocky Patel Vintage 2003 Cameroon, followed by the Rocky Patel Sixty, one of Rocky’s personal favorite cigars. Experiencing these two distinctive blends while listening to Rocky explain his philosophy and methods gave guests a deeper appreciation of the craftsmanship and precision behind each cigar.

His knowledge and approachable character created an open atmosphere where enthusiasts could ask questions, discuss their experiences, and better understand the work that takes place long before a cigar reaches the humidor.

The meet and greet offered a different experience. More relaxed and personal, it allowed members and guests to meet Rocky, exchange stories, take photographs, and enjoy cigars together within the distinctive atmosphere of Club Mareva Beirut. It was an evening built around genuine conversation and a shared appreciation for cigar culture.

Rocky thoroughly enjoyed his time in Lebanon and spoke warmly about the Lebanese people, their generosity, and their remarkable hospitality. He also praised the country’s excellent food and appreciated the sense of connection that defines Lebanese life. As he observed during his visit, in Lebanon you are never alone. His experience left a strong impression on him, and he made it clear that he wants to return and experience Lebanon again.

What made the visit especially meaningful was Rocky’s direct engagement with the Lebanese cigar community. Despite the challenges Lebanon has experienced, the country continues to have a knowledgeable and passionate audience for premium cigars. The enthusiasm shown throughout all three events confirmed that Lebanon remains an important and sophisticated cigar market.

Rocky was equally impressed by Club Mareva Beirut. He expressed his appreciation for the character and atmosphere of the lounge, described its walk in humidor as beautiful, and admired its extensive cigar offering. He also highlighted the exceptional selection of premium whiskies, which complemented the experience and reflected the attention given to every aspect of the club.

For Club Mareva Beirut, these gatherings reflected the purpose behind everything we do. We believe that cigars are not simply products. They represent craftsmanship, history, patience, friendship, and experiences that bring people together. Welcoming Rocky Patel gave our guests the opportunity to connect directly with those values.

The success of the visit was also the result of the dedication of the entire Club Mareva Beirut team and everyone who contributed behind the scenes. From preparing the lounge and coordinating the events to welcoming every guest, their work ensured that each occasion reflected the standards and hospitality for which Club Mareva Beirut is known.

We would like to thank Rocky Patel for visiting Lebanon, for generously sharing his time and knowledge, and for giving our guests three memorable experiences. We also thank everyone who attended the two masterclasses and the meet and greet, helping us create another important chapter in the story of cigar culture in Lebanon.

Rocky Patel’s visit may have lasted only a few days, but the conversations, friendships, and memories created at Club Mareva Beirut will remain with us for years to come.
